Burnt out...

Before beginning this trip I didn't anticipate the physical and mental toll that working and traveling would have on me. In this past month I've stayed in over a dozen hotels in different cities. In the past 9 days I stayed in 6 alone, and spent over 24 hours on buses, trains, and planes in just the last 3 days. And that doesn't include the waiting time!

I've lost about 8 pounds already and possibly more cause it's been days since I weighed myself. Too often I forget to feed the machine because I'm either too tired or lazy. I don't get much sleep either. I work until 5 am most nights and all the hotels here require you to check out before 10 am, or if I'm lucky 11 am. And then you usually have to wait until 2-4 pm before you can check into another hotel so you're stuck dragging your luggage around for a few hours.

So now that I've returned to Tokyo I've decided to settle down in one place for a while and forgo the traveling for a bit. I go out and do something nearly every day because I feel like I "should". But I need to rest and get on a regular sleep pattern so I can better concentrate on work, do some programming, test out some new strategies, and whatever. My trading has been suffering since I began the trip.

The trip to Hokkaido was amazing. I'll talk about it and post pictures in the next post later this week. Too tired... must sleep... oh wait, market doesn't close for another 5 hours...

Here's a photo of Sapporo at night. During the day you can see the city is surrounded by mountains. I'm going to include a photo with every blog post from now on just to make it a little more colorful.

Why do you need to stay up late to work if you have a blackbox? Same thing when you say that your trading has suffered... I dont get it.

That pic is from your rented penthouse and the asian models are in your back right?

The picture looks amazing close up, – if you decide to stay in Japan till the end of month, I just might have to take you up on your offer ;)

The pictures are very nice to look at, you should include more than one photo in each of your blog (especially more of men) =)

I hope the 8 pounds you lost did not come off your six pack...

Get lots of rest and take care,
L

Btw – I like how your nickname for you photo gallery is “moisttower”!?!?

G - I don't know of any automated traders that leave their systems unattended, except maybe for those that take 1-2 signals a day for a longer time-frame. Too many problems can arise. For instance, sometimes ECNs have issues which can either cause orders to not get filled properly (especially bad on your stops side. i lost 10x the regular amount one morning b/c of this) or they create stickies in the Level2 and mispresent your PnL or create false opportunities. Stocks get halted... I was in 2 this month and on the wrong side. My programs crash every once in a while. I have to either shut off or make adjustments before possible economic news that could make the market go crazy. Sometimes there are issues with the API or data server... etc. Plus the dozens of things that could go wrong that I have never thought of.

But if you aren't an automated trader then you wouldn't understand. Unless you take hundred+ trades a day while you go out and play golf?

And it has suffered because I haven't made the proper adjustments both intraday and post-market that I usually do. Markets change and if you trade you probably know June has been different intraday that previous months. My main system for the last 12 months which has rarely had a losing week is negative for this month. Could I make the proper adjustments to get it working again for this slow market? Probably. But it takes a lot of time and thought, none of which I have the energy or concentration for now.

Day trading is a full time job no matter how you do it.

And when have I ever insinuated that I stay in penthouses or do models? Maybe you got that from the 50 dollar a night apartment I showed a few posts ago? Hotels do have more than 1 floor you know... and some might even have a floor below the penthouse suite. Crazy isn't it.

Niiiiiice. Don't wear yourself out too much from the traveling. Take it easy. Traveling should be enjoyed, not loathed!

As a daytrader I completly understand your points, perhaps I didnt realize the possible complications at first, because I am only doing AT on Forex, and I gotta say it is more "user-friendly" in that case (mt4 platform).

Concerning the end of my last comment, the nightshot of Sapporo just looked like big pimpin to me so I wanted to wish you luck on your "extra-curricular" activities...

@G - Ah, I getcha now ;)

I wrote a lot there because I thought the info would be helpful to others who currently or are planning to autotrade equities.

Happy trading!
